Cumuruxatiba

Cumuruxatiba, a district belonging to the municipality of Prado in Bahia, was officially established by municipal law in 1896. The region, known informally as "Cumuru", stands out as one of the most charming tourist destinations on the Bahian coast, mainly for its unspoiled beaches and calm waters.

Cumuruxatiba's coastline is marked by serenity and unspoiled natural beauty. Its beaches, some of which are practically isolated, are surrounded by natural pools and imposing cliffs, creating a paradisiacal setting. The district's urban core maintains a rustic and charming atmosphere, with few buildings on the seafront, which facilitates pedestrian access and provides a pleasant environment for walking and contemplation.

The journey to Cumuruxatiba is a true immersion in nature. Access is via a 32 km dirt road from the center of Prado, offering visitors a journey through exuberant landscapes that reflect all the richness of the southern coast of Bahia. For those wishing to explore the region further, just 15 km north of the district is Barra do Cahy beach, a place of great historical significance. In 2000, during the celebrations of Brazil's 500th anniversary, this beach was recognized as "the first beach in Brazil", due to Pedro Álvares Cabral's stop at the mouth of the Cahy River for around 40 hours before heading to Porto Seguro in April 1500.
